2006 Virgin College Mega Tour

Monday, April 24th - Wichita State University

It's about time we updated our tour journal! We've been on the road with the Virgin College Mega Tour... aka on tour with Yellowcard and Mae! The shows are huge and since they are packed full of sponsors, we get to hang out in the sponsor village all day and chew gum with dentyne, hit baseballs with Major League Baseball, kick it with the folk from Alternative Press, test drive new Pontiacs, cd shop at the Virgin Mega Store booth and check out new bands at the village side stage!
So in Wichita, we had a bit of a different day! We were almost smashed by tornados! Today was the first day that the sponsor village didn't set up because of bad weather. It got so bad that during our sound check, the town of Wichita set off their tornado alert alarms and everyone started freaking out! This tour has been mostly arenas and it's been so rad! This room was the first completely round room we played, so i made sure to take a panoramic shot of the arena. Tonights show was alot of fun. We have a new guitar player (Ryan Don't Look Down) beginning on this tour and we're having alot of fun letting him give our introduction to the crowd every night. Tonights takes the cake so far, it was "WE ARE THE BAND OVER IT! .... YOU ... ARE WICHITA!". It's great to kick off the shows with a smile. Like every night on this tour, the catering was AWESOME. James and Ryan played a quick texas hold 'em game with some Mae and YC dudes after dinner.
Alex has been called up to duty and he'll be playing bass for Rufio in South America. Today was his last day with us. Yeah. I know. Sounds like I'm lying, but I'm not. Al's gone and all I have is a picture of him wearing a T-shirt with the caption "Legendary Guy". Al is a pretty legendary guy.
Another thing that rocked tonight was that our homies from the RADICAL band Haven 21 came to the show all the way from Omaha, NE! We get along with those guys real well, and it was so good to see those guys and kick it ARENA STYLE! Definately go check those guys out on myspace.
Tomorrow, we have a tight schedule to keep. A very important stop at Walmart so i can find Final Fantasy VII Advent Children (dvd that comes out tomorrow) and nick can pick up the new Taking Back Sunday and Goo Goo Dolls, a trip to the airport to drop off alex, a stop by a St. Louis case company to pick up a new case for Nick and Peter's amplifiers and a final stop at another airport to pick up our buddy Eric from San Diego! That dudes the man, i'm glad he's coming on tour with us. (Ghoul)
